Known For
Traditional Hatha yoga rooted in classical teachings, incorporating spiritual practice, breathwork, and meditation.
Getting There
Just a block south of Bloor and Spadina, the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre is easily accessible by TTC, car, or bike. You'll find Green P street parking on Harbord and Spadina, and bike racks right in front of the house. The studio is located in a house with clear signage, so it's easy to spot.
The Space
The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre is located in a house with a check-in desk at the end of the main hallway. There's a prayer room on the main floor, and two studios upstairs: one for yoga classes and one for satsang or meditation. The yoga practice room has wood floors and vaulted ceilings, no mirrors, plenty of natural light, and traditional decor.
Amenities & Changerooms
Changerooms are small closets located in the basement. There’s a single private washroom on the main floor. Lockers are not available, so it’s best to bring only what you need.
Class Types
Beginner Trial (Saturdays), Yoga Class (90 min series), Gentle, Satsang
Best Beginner Class:
Free community beginner class Saturday mornings – a great intro. Then take Level 1/2 series
Fun Classes to Try
Workshops related to yoga and holistic wellbeing. Weekly Satsang (group meditation). Monthly Kirtan.
What to Expect in Class
Expect a set sequence of breathing exercises, sun salutations, foundational postures held for longer periods, and deep relaxation, often ending with chanting or meditation, and a supportive community.
Best if You Like
A slower, more mindful pace with a mindful foundation and consistent structure, and those interested in deepening their meditation practice.
Pro Tips
Try the free Beginner trial class and/or Level 1/2 series before attempting the 90-minute Yoga Class, unless you have plenty of experience in Hatha yoga. This class is listed on ClassPass, and although it's accessible for all, you'll want some experience in the basic poses. Community Satsang is really special here - come with an open mind.
