Known For
Forest & Waves is known for its candlelit yin classes, warm-hearted community, and treehouse-style cedar studio. It’s a must-do experience for anyone visiting Tofino and looking to connect inward while surrounded by nature.
Getting There
Located right outside break complex (Tacofino, Live to Surf,The Den, etc.) right off Pacific Rim Highway. Just head up the stairs off the plaza by the Wildside Grill. Parking is free and easy. They also offer beach yoga sessions in the summer, check the schedule online for details.
The Space
The studio is very cozy and feels like a cozy treehouse oasis with warm cedar walls. It totally fits the Tofino vibe - low-key, chill, and intimate (max. 12 people). It's up a flight of stairs on the second floor of the building, and there big windows that look out into trees. Evening classes are often candlelit (especially Yin), which creates a magical atmosphere. Overall it's simple and beautiful in true Island style.
Amenities & Changerooms
This is a show-up-as-you-are kind of place. Mats and props are all provided. The private gender-neutral washroom doubles as a changing space, and there is space to leave your belongings in the hallway outside of the studio room.
Class Types
Forest & Waves offers a well-rounded, thoughtfully curated schedule including:
Vinyasa & Power – Energetic, flowing classes that build heat
Yin & Restorative – Often candlelit and deeply relaxing — not to be missed
Yang/Yin – A balanced blend of movement and stillness
Hatha & Foundations – Grounding classes perfect for all levels
Community Classes – Occasional by-donation offerings
Beach Yoga – Held in warmer months, oceanside
Best Beginner Class:
Hatha or yin/restorative if you’re into relaxing (it’s candelit and really nice). They occasionally offer community drop-in classes by donation.
Fun Classes to Try
Beach Yoga, SUP Yoga, and Candlelit Yin/Restorative is really special in the cozy treehouse
What to Expect in Class
Expect to feel welcomed the moment you walk in. Classes are inclusive and accessible, led by a diverse team of skilled teachers. Whether you’re sweating in vinyasa or melting into a restorative pose with the sounds of nature outside, every class is grounded in intention and heart.
Best if You Like
Nature, want to move intuitively, and care more about energy than aesthetic. Great for surfers, hikers, and travelers who crave authentic community and island soul. Also perfect if you want a deep exhale at the end of your Tofino day.
